Why I love her. The genius that is Victory Beckham.

I remember the first time I heard the Spice Girls ‘Wannabe’ it was 1996 and I was hard at work on my daily radio show on Onda Cero International. I played Wannabe almost daily and watched it climb to the top of the UK charts both here in Europe followed by America and shortly after the rest of the world. The Spice Girls were to go on to become the biggest and most successful girl group ever using their motto ‘Girl Power’.

The Spice Girls were made up of Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm. Wannabe was followed by nine further number one singles from their albums Spice, Spiceworld and Forever. Each member of the group received a nickname from the media. Beckham was named "Posh Spice". The group went on to selling over fifty-five million records worldwide. After the release of their third album, Forever (UK number 2), which was far less successful than their previous two albums, the Spice Girls stopped recording, leading Beckham to try to build a solo career.

As we know the Brits generally hate success so as soon as they build you up they will try to tear you down. In the case of the Spice Girls they needed to pick on someone so why not Victoria she was after all the prettiest (some might say) she was also rumoured to have come from a privileged background (not exactly true) where the other 4 girls were working class, this again didn’t endear her to the public. Most of all the press would pick on her for not smiling in front of the cameras (Victoria didn’t think that she looked good smiling so why should she?)

It was generally said that Victoria couldn’t sing (the same thing has been said of Cheryl Cole) If she couldn’t sing how come she made up part of the biggest singing girl group in the world? As a solo artist she is currently the only Spice Girl never to have had a UK solo number one, though she is also the only Spice Girl to have all her single/album releases go Top 10.

In 1997, she started dating footballer David Beckham after they met at a charity football match, prompting him to request a meeting with her. Of their initial meeting, she said, "I didn't really know who he was. I was never into football." The couple announced their engagement in 1998 and were dubbed "Posh and Becks" by the media.
On 4 July 1999 they were married by the Bishop of Cork, Paul Colton, at Luttrellstown Castle, Ireland. The wedding attracted much media coverage making the name Posh and Becks as famous and Lady Di and Prince Charles

In 2007, the Spice Girls reformed and announced plans to embark upon a reunion tour, from which they were said to have earned £10 million each
. Victoria had previously stated that she and her former Spice colleagues were enjoying their solo careers in various fields, saying "We're all still doing our own thing." Their Greatest Hits album was released in early November 2007 and the tour began on 2 December 2007. At its advent, Beckham said "I wanted my children to see that Mummy was a pop star. It was the last opportunity for them to stand in a crowd full of people screaming for the Spice Girls."

On 13 September 2001, Beckham released her first book, Learning to Fly. The title was taken from a line in a song from the musical Fame, which Beckham had enjoyed as a child. The verse that inspired the title was: "I'm gonna live forever, I'm gonna learn how to fly".The autobiography documents her childhood, time during the Spice Girls, her marriage and family life, as well as her career at the time. She describes her eating disorder associated with the need to be slim. Learning to Fly became the third best-selling non-fiction title of 2001 and the total UK sales stand at more than 500,000 copies.

Beckham made a guest appearance on the catwalk for Maria Grachvogel in 2000, marking her debut as a model at London Fashion Week. Beckham also acted as a British ambassador for Dolce and Gabbana[78] and was briefly the face of Rocawear in 2003. Beckham designed a limited-edition fashion line for Rock & Republic called VB. Rocks in 2004, consisting mainly of jeans for the high end of the market, retailing at approximately $300 in the US.

People often say that Victoria would be nothing without David this might be true but David would now have been a forgotten football TV pundit. I believe to have achieved the success they have they both needed each other. It mightn't have been generally recognised that although David Beckham was undoubtedly a hugely talented footballer he would NEVER have been the world wide celebrity without Victoria’s decision to dump his management company and sign him to Simon Fuller 19 management company. Fuller who founded the Spice Girls and was responsible for Pop Idol which was the forerunner to shows like X Factor (which he is also a share holder in) He then launched American Idol one of USA's most successful TVs shows. This was a genius move by Victoria turning the Beckham name into a brand. Fuller also responsible for the signing of Beckham to LA Galaxy for a staggering $250 million!!! Again Victoria was the one behind this deal giving her a passport into America to launch the Victoria Fashion Brand.

Last night in New York her new collection received high critical acclaim. The Victoria Beckham label took a staggering £30million in sales last year alone and this is before she opens her flagship store in London later this month which will be followed by New York and Los Angeles it is then rumored that she will expand into Japan where the Beckham name is next to G-D!!.

I predict that Victoria Beckham will go on to make billions leaving her husband in the poor class!!!
So where are her ignorant critics now? The UK loves her, America is wild about her in fact most of the A list celebrities could be seen wearing the Victoria Beckham brand at last year’s Oscars.

It is said she’s a workaholic but yet spends as much time with the children as possible. She doesn’t have a hoard of nannies, as the public like to believe to help her, in fact she’s said to be very hands on and always has her mum and dad and sister Louise at hand to muck in.

This is why I love VB. Good luck to her and boy do her critics look stupid now.
