This is the Jewish New Year the Rosh Hashanah רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה Tomorrow in synagogues throughout the world we shall turn to the Almighty and pray for peace. We will ask the Lord to forgive us for the sins we created in the year gone past, to look favourable upon us and seal us in the book of life for the year ahead.

I will play two wonderful songs sung for the New Year by one of the greatest Jewish female singers of all time, Barbara Streisand.
The first is the Israeli national anthem the HaTivah

The second is called "Avinu Malkeinu" with a Hebrew choir at Friends of the Israeli Defence Force fund raiser in0 Hollywood

L'Shana Tovah Umatukah. May you be sealed in the Book of Life for Peace, health and prosperity

Hear our prayer
We have sinned before Thee
Have compassion upon us and upon our children
Help us bring an end to pestilence, war, and famine

In 10 days time it is the Jewish holiest day of the year, the Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the day we pray to the Lord asking for forgiveness, the day he decides what the coming year will bring for us. Who shall live, who shall die, who will be healthy who will be unwell, who shall be rich who shall be poor. The fast begins with a very solemn hymn the Kol Nidre. Here Neil Diamond sings the Kol Nidre from the film the Jazz Singer also staring Laurence Olivier....

I wish my family and friends a Happy and Healthy New Year. May peace be our future.
